Five Things I Love About Modern Tailor

It’s time for me to reflect on why I am supporting Modern Tailor, not only because I handle marketing but also because I am a paying customer. Yes, I’ll disclose that I get discounts of course. *Cheeky Grin*

1. I can choose any fabric I like – seriously! I love checks, reds, stripes, blues, yellows and blues. It is incredibly difficult for a woman to find a dress shop that sells decent business shirts – in colors and patterns I like.

2. I can order a standard design when I feel like donning a conservative, professional look. I can revise the design to make it more edgy and modern yet still professional.

These days, I can barely find a shop that would sell a business shirt in the fabric and style that I want. I remember walking 6 hours around the Mall of Asia looking for any shop that sells business shirts for women. Imagine how happy I was to find one! In the exact red/blue color and check cotton fabric that I want! I immediately grabbed it without even looking at the price. As I was about to pay, I saw a freaking bow at the back! What-the-Fart… 

I thought, oh well, I guess I can take that off. I was standing at the counter, clutching the shirt, thinking over and over and I decided, maybe I should try fitting it first. So I went in the dressing room and tried the shirt… My disappointment turned into frustration when I started buttoning up the shirt. I guess that collar didn’t really fit my small head after all.

The Tragedy is Not in Poverty…

A friend recommended the book “House of Mirth” by Edith Warton… this book tackles social issues around the 1920s it seems. There is also a film version found on youtube. In summary, the story is about a woman who is conflicted between her desire for luxurious living and to acquire true love based on mutual respect and admiration.

The social pressure to don beautiful, branded clothing, use latest gadgets, drive sports cars, live in fancy homes exists to this day. There are people who are against materialism and those who seek too much of it.

Money has been more important than ever as information is distributed online.  However, money is not the culprit … and I am not against life’s comforts.

The tragedy for women is not in potential of poverty if they can not marry well. The tragedy is if they do not realize that skill development and education are most important to their entire being. Their intellectual growth will save them from the temptations and manipulations that await them in a society that values material goods.

The question is not – Is it possible to have true love and money at the same time? The question should be – What can a woman do in her life to make sure she earns herself respect that would make potential partners value not just her appearance but also her mind? For the improvement of her mind is her only true treasure… and despite how long it takes a person to succeed, if the mind is constantly improving, true success will come.
